"We Need a Fence" is a project that promotes the idea of building a state of the art border fence along the US/Mexico border.

 

A recent Bear Stearns report estimates that there are currently over 20 million immigrants illegally living in the United States, and the number of illegals that cross the Mexican border is growing at a rate of about 1,000,000 a year. It's not just Mexicans either; approximately 100,000 members of the annual wetback migration across the Mexican border belong to nationalities other than Mexico, many from "special interest" countries like Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Jordan. It is out of control.

 

Although the initial cost to build such a barrier along the 2,000 odd miles of our southern border is estimated at between 4 to 8 billion dollars (think Israeli style border fence, not the backyard chain link variety); it would pay for itself very quickly in the form of tax dollars that would no longer get spent providing education, health care, incarceration and deportation of the illegal aliens flooding across the Mexican border. In California alone these costs are about 10 billion dollars per year.

 

I don't know about the rest of you, but I'd much rather see my tax money spent keeping the illegals out of the country than I would having it used to make sure they are healthy and educated once they get here. And if it only keeps one potential cop killer like Raul Garcia-Gomez out of our country then it will have been worth the initial cost.
